Nowadays, there’s heaps of companies who provide these reports, and prices range from as little as $220 right up to $800 or more.

Unsurprisingly, if you pay peanuts, you will probably get monkeys. Or, to vary the illustration, you wouldn’t expect highway performance from a scooter. In the same way, you should not expect maximum tax savings from a cheap report.

But on the other end of the scale, paying top dollar doesn’t necessarily mean the best report either. Sometimes it just means you’re unwittingly financing a middleman, rather than dealing with a surveyor directly. Other times it means the surveyor took you for a ride.

There is a happy medium where you get exceptional value for money. There’s no need to pay the absolute top end fees, but it’s also unwise to go too cheap.

  • They must have 4.2+ star reviews on Google. If it’s less than that, I don’t feel completely comfortable endorsing the business, because it means some customers, somewhere, have had a less-than-stellar experience.
  • They must have been in business 4+ years. Without this, I simply can’t have the confidence in their experience to be able to endorse them.
